Novel liquid state NMR measurement method for the direct discrimination of chiral enantiomers.

September 2024

Voxalytic is excited to announce a breakthrough in NMR methodology, achieved in collaboration with KIT, of the chemically unaided, direct distinction of chiral enantiomers. The concept was first proposed by A.D Buckingham in 2004, where the coupling between the spins and electric charge dipoles is exploited to induce an odd parity coupling tensor in the NMR Hamiltonian. With an appropriate detector design, and the interfacing required for the detector’s functionality, as provided by a newly developed probe head, we made it possible to differentiate two enantiomers based on the signal from a specific chiral centre. Voxalytic - 10 years jubilee

June 2024

In June 2014, Voxalytic started its exciting adventure by introducing highly sensitive micro-coil based detectors into the NMR market. Close corporations with academic and industrial partners supported Voxalytic to optimize the detectors for high spectral resolution, compatibility, and sensitivity. Now, 10 years later, we are well known in the NMR community for our liquid-state high-field NMR probes and the ability to adapt a probe to customer demands. We look forward to the future and new exciting projects with this great community!

NMR PROBE FOR PARALLEL SAMPLE SCREENING IN CONJUNCTION WITH HYPERPOLARIZATION

April 2024

Aiming at the parallel screening of hyperpolarized samples using dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP), Voxalytic installed an NMR probe in a laboratory at the Institute for Biological Interfaces at KIT, for a 400 MHz spectrometer.

The probe has 4 detection sites, each equipped with 2 RF channels, making it an 8-channel probe. Each detector can be individually controlled and operated by the spectrometer. To minimize the risk of sample heating, or loss of polarization, and thus to allow for quick spectral acquisition, each detector has its own fast-switching pulsed field gradient, which can deliver the required gradient strength of 75 Gauss/cm. Furthermore, a quick succession of flexible multi resonance experiments on microliter-sized liquid samples are made possible by fluidic multiplexing, thus combining any 2, 3 or all 4 NMR detectors of the probe.

BROADBAND STRIPLINE LENZ LENS ACHIEVES 11 × NMR SIGNAL ENHANCEMENT.

January 2024

Voxalytic is excited to announce the publication of the article “Broadband stripline Lenz lens achieves 11 × NMR signal enhancement” in Scientific Reports (Nature Group). In collaboration with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), we demonstrate the Lenz Lens (LL) as an add-on passive device to improve the SNR of NMR detectors used for measuring low sample volumes. This allows the acquisition of sample-limited measurements without compromising on the SNR and reducing the number of scans required to achieve a certain signal intensity. We also demonstrate different nuclei measurements, and even 1H-13C HSQC of glucose to prove the broadband feature of the device and its capability to handle even complicated pulse sequences. For more details about the LL, and possibilities to license the LL patent from Voxalytic GmbH, please do not hesitate to contact us. The open access paper can be freely downloaded from:

NMR PROBE FOR HIGH-THROUGHPUT SCREENING

December 2023

Voxalytic installed yet another of its parallel probes to the Helmholtz Association in Karlsruhe for the purpose of high throughput screening of chemical compound libraries.

The research team of Prof. Jan Korvink estimate that they will now be able to speed up their experiments by a factor of 200, the equivalent of reducing a year’s screening work to two days only.

Each one of the 4 detectors are equipped with 2 radiofrequency channels, a dedicated Z-gradient, individual localized shim stacks, and a dedicated fluidic system. The detectors are custom designed to screen sample trains of micro-liter droplets. According to Prof Korvink, “Starting with samples contained in 96-well plates, entire series of experiments will be prepared and loaded into chemically inert tubing, which are directly connected to the probe.” With this setup, the probe can investigate 4 sets of experiments at the same time, within a single wide bore NMR magnet. The team will now explore the limits of ligand affinity acquisitions to meet the ambitious goals of high throughput drug-discovery-via-NMR experiments.

VOXALYTIC’S HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HIGH PRESSURE NMR PROBE THAT ACCOMMODATES A LARGE 16 MM DIAMETER FLOW-CELL.

October 2023

Voxalytic installed another high temperature and high pressure NMR probe at a large chemical company in Ludwigshafen.

For the study of chemical reactions, a flow-cell is integrated in the entirely free 16 mm diameter central bore of the probe. The flow-cell can be precisely moved with sub-mm accuracy along B0-field direction. The sensitive region hence moves relative to the high-resolution NMR detector and the installed gradient coil. It is adaptable and offers exceptional experimental flexibility. Field drifts are compensated by an external field-frequency lock.

NMR PROBE ENABLES PARALLEL HETERONUCLEAR SCREENING OF CHEMICAL LIBRARIES

July 2023

Voxalytic delivered its new high-throughput parallel NMR probe with liquid state sample screening capabilities to the team of Geoffrey Bodenhausen in ENS Paris.

To operate correctly, the probe relies on a console with nine RF channels (one for the external frequency lock, the others arranged in four double resonant pairs)
and four gradient amplifiers. According to Voxalytic engineer Dr. Ronald Kampmann, “The team at ENS Paris can now screen liquid compounds up to 200 times
faster than with a conventional sample tube approach. That is six months work of continuous NMR in only a day”. Sagar Wadhwa is excited to add, “We have
carefully engineered the system to meet advanced customer requirements”.

NMR PROBE ENABLES REACTION CHEMISTRY MONITORING AT HIGH TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE

June 2023

Voxalytic announces the successful installation of another of its specialized NMR probes, which features high temperature (Tmax = 400°C) and high pressure (pmax = 40 bar) capabilities, at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
The probe allows the study of chemical reactions in the installed reactor, where the 1.2 mL flow cell enables comprehensive flow-through analysis. Furthermore, NMR acquisition at different reactor positions along the z-axis is possible due to an integrated high-precision lift system that positions the rector relative to the NMR detector. To compensate for field drifts, and to ensure long-term experiment stability, a precise NMR frequency sensor provides accurate field locking.
